Slide the cosmetic faceplate away from the door.

Apply a bit of pressure to the paper clip to trigger a release button inside the hardware.
You should see a tiny slot or hole.
After applying some pressure you can pull the door knob towards you.
Push the tip of a narrow screwdriver into the hole.

Insert the tip of a screwdriver and pry off the trim piece.
There should be a small latch near the base of the knob or handle probably on the exterior side of the door.
